Shin Ka: Inner
Gardens of Reflection
(April – May 2025)

An immersive exhibition exploring the history, philosophy, and evolution of Japanese gardens as spaces of resilience.
Rather than presenting these gardens solely through their aesthetic sensibilities, this exhibition explored how intentional landscape design can provide unique opportunities for healing and building community through the lens of Oregon State Penitentiary and their project participants.

Featuring several of Hoichi Kurisu and his team's projects as architectural case studies, "Shin Ka" focuses on OSP's Memorial Healing Garden designed by Hoichi Kurisu and his LLC. Artwork on display included both photography and audio recordings of reflections from incarcerated caretakers,
a projector art installation, and custom miniature zen garden.
